Montagu Local Information

Montagu is located on the famous Route 62 which provides a scenic alternative for travelers between Cape Town and the Garden Route.

Montagu is a peaceful town steeped in history and is renowned for its spectacular rock formations, fruit orchards, vineyards and healing hot springs. There are also attractive hiking trails, wonderful rock climbing sites and a nature garden. Two museums reflect the history of the vicinity and a herb garden contains a large number of medicinal plants found in the area. Montagu is known for its muscadel wine and four wine cellars in and around the town produce an assortment of excellent wines. The tractor ride to the top of the Langeberg outside the town is an unforgettable experience. The healthy, unpolluted, dry air makes for a much sought after climate. The Koo Valley, known for its fresh and dried fruit, is situated near the town. Montagu is only two hours' drive from Cape Town and within easy reach of the coast.
